The Lead-Up to Chase Center: Marc Anthony

Monday October 14, 2019

Marc Anthony will make his Chase Center debut on October 19, when he brings his Opus Tour to San Francisco.

The Opus Tour celebrates Anthony’s first album release, under the same name, in six years. And though the Latin audience has remained entranced by Reggaeton and trap music as of late, Anthony is sticking to his guns on his latest album.

Elias Leight of Rolling Stone wrote of Anthony’s new album: “Anthony’s refusal to change with the times on [the album] is unfashionable, but intelligent.”

“Many of the tracks on Opus aim for the melodic ferocity of Anthony’s Nineties catalog, with stampeding bass lines, strafing runs on the piano and magnificently coordinated horns. There is princely attention to detail… and brass melodies that sound stirring enough to be stolen from a standard but are not,” Leight continued.

In a clip from Apple Music’s behind-the-scenes look at the creation of Opus, Anthony said “Since I finished my last album, I’ve been collecting music and I’ve sat with just the most amazing writers and it took about six years.”

“I needed to just let it out,” he added. “It was just my creativity screaming. It’s how this started.”

A two-time Grammy Award winner and six-time Latin Grammy Award winner, Anthony is the top-selling tropical salsa artist of all-time with more than 12 million records sold and numerous gold and platinum certifications. His musical success resulted in enshrinement into the Billboard Hall of Fame in 2012.

Anthony is also a philanthropist who has worked with partners to open orphanages, youth homes, and schools. He has used music as a vehicle for change as well throughout his career: more recently, Anthony was honored as the Latin Recording Academy’s Person of the Year in 2016 for his contributions to music and philanthropic work, and in 2017 teamed-up with Jennifer Lopez to host a telethon supporting Puerto Rico’s recovery efforts after Hurricane Maria.
