Chase Center Selected to Host 2028 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball West Regionals

Wednesday, October 2, 2024

The NCAA has announced that Chase Center and the City of San Francisco have been named a host site for the 2028 Division I Men’s Basketball West Regionals. The West Coast Conference will serve as the host. Dates for the regional round, which consists of the Sweet 16 and Elite 8, will be announced at a later date.

As previously announced, Chase Center will host the 2025 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball West Regionals on March 27 and 29, 2025, marking the second time the venue will host the event. During the 2022 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball West Regionals at Chase Center, Duke University advanced to the Final Four after defeating Arkansas 78-69. Prior to 2022, the NCAA had not hosted March Madness in San Francisco since 1939, when the city hosted the West Regionals at the California Coliseum on Treasure Island.

This is the fourth time for this specific NCAA championship bid process, spanning 87 championships across a two-year cycle. Previously, selection announcements varied by sport. This process gives the NCAA and host sites more time to plan each championship experience.

Bidding for 87 of 90 NCAA championships began in September 2023 and more than 1,200 bid applications were ultimately submitted. Each sport committee, per division, selected the host sites it believed would provide the ultimate experience for the respective student-athletes, resulting in more than 240 total championship event sites being awarded. More than 54,000 student-athletes compete in NCAA championships each year. The championships not included in the process are Division I baseball, Division I football and Division I softball.
