Mayor Breed Announces New Thrive City Entertainment Zone
The Golden State Warriors have announced a series of Lunar New Year activations celebrating the Year of the Snake throughout the months of January and February. Fans will have an opportunity to celebrate and honor Asian heritage through a variety of activations including displays of Zodiac statues, community events, and special activities and giveaways during NBA All-Star 2025.
Beginning Friday, January 17 through Sunday, March 2, Thrive City and Union Square will display snake statues as part of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of San Francisco’s “Year of the Snake on Parade” program. The Chamber organizes San Francisco’s annual Chinese New Year Festival & Parade, taking place on Saturday, February 15. The Thrive City snake, featuring Warriors gold and blue, will include a basketball with three stars to symbolize the franchise hosting its third NBA All-Star Game (The Cow Palace in 1967 and Oakland Arena in 2000). The Union Square snake, dubbed Sssuperstar will showcase NBA All-Star elements, including All-Star Cable Car coins and a trail of stars from head to tail, along with a coin in its mouth to symbolize good fortune, plum blossoms for resilience, lanterns to symbolize tradition and luck, and intricate images of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Each of the snake statues were designed by local artists and represent a unique cultural meaning displayed in the design elements while paying homage to NBA All-Star coming to the Bay Area. After the display period, all the statues will be auctioned off with net proceeds benefitting local AAPI nonprofit organizations.
The Warriors and Thrive City will also host events to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Fans attending Golden State’s Wednesday, January 29 matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder will receive Lunar New Year Playing Cards, courtesy of Cache Creek Casino Resort. Thrive City will ring in the Year of the Snake with a Lunar New Year Celebration on Sunday, February 2, from 12 to 3 p.m., which will feature delicious culinary delights, family-friendly activities, lion dancers from LionDanceMe, special cultural performances from Nguyen Dance Company and Korean Culture Center Urisawe, and more.
The Warriors and San Francisco Bay Area will host NBA All-Star 2025, with the 74th NBA All-Star Game taking place at Chase Center on Sunday, February 16. Additional signature NBA All-Star events will take place throughout the weekend at numerous locations across the Bay Area, including Moscone Convention Center, Oakland Arena, the Warriors’ Oakland Facility, and Pier 48. The Warriors previously hosted NBA All-Star in 2000 (Oakland Arena, Oakland) and 1967 (The Cow Palace, Daly City). Tickets for select NBA All-Star 2025 events are available at nbaevents.com.
