Thrive City Announces Addition of Kayah, by Burma Love

Friday, November 10, 2023

Thrive City has announced the addition of Kayah (pronounced Kai-uh), a new restaurant concept from the team behind popular restaurants Burma Love and Burma Superstar. Kayah will feature favorites from the local Bay Area family of restaurants including their Signature Tea Leaf Salad, alongside other classics such as the Rainbow Salad and Platha & Dip. Kayah will also host a variety of original Burmese dishes like Bao Sliders, Yangon Skewers, and other Southeast Asian flavors.

Kayah will be located in Thrive City’s West Plaza next to Gott’s Roadside. The restaurant is slated to open in summer 2024 and will be open for business seven days a week for lunch, happy hour, dinner, and drinks.

With a full-service bar, complete with a cocktail and wine program, large televisions, and a spacious heated outdoor patio, Kayah will offer a distinctive dining and bar experience ideal for any occasion, from a quick lunch or a weekday happy hour to a date-night bite or post-event dinner. Designed by Jon de la Cruz of DLC ID, in collaboration with Jay Sherlock and his team at Studio J Architecture, Kayah’s interior offers a modern maritime theme inspired by Southeast Asia and Burma. The space also features grab ‘n’ go food service, private event offerings and large party accommodations.

“We are absolutely thrilled to join the vibrant Thrive City community,” said Burma Food Group Head of Brand, Bryanna Yip. “Our team is genuinely excited to have the opportunity to develop a space that ignites curiosity, fosters exploration, and above all, serves as a vibrant hub for connection and community.”

Kayah is the newest addition to Burma Food Group, who own Burma Superstar (Oakland and Alameda locations), Burma Love, and Burma Bites in locations across the Bay Area. Teakwood, located in Hayes Valley, is their latest concept that opened this past spring.

Current Thrive City retailers include Chase Bank, Cupcakin’ Bake Shop, Dumpling Time, Gott’s Roadside, Harmonic Brewing, Miller & Lux, Mission Bay Wine Bar, GluGlu, Misalignment Museum, Philz Coffee and Warriors Shop. Che Fico Pizzeria is set to open in early 2024.
