Thrive City Announces Free 2024 Summer Community Programming

Thrive City has announced today its 2024 summer programming schedule, which features free events for the entire family from June to August, including Daybreaker, Pride Comedy Night, live performances, movie nights, fitness classes, and more. Two sports tournaments, the first-ever Pickleball Tournament and the return of Hoop It Up 3x3 basketball tournament are also scheduled this summer and are free for spectators, with paid registration required for participation. Thrive City, in collaboration with Kaiser Permanente, has hosted over 200 free public events since July 2023, all of which are centered around health and wellness, arts and culture, sports and entertainment, and civic engagement. Upcoming Thrive City events include:

  • Weekly Fitness Classes, presented by Kaiser Permanente — Thrive City will continue to host free weekly fitness classes every Wednesday from 12 to 1 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. presented by Kaiser Permanente. Yoga, HIIT Bodyweight, Bollywood Dance, and family fitness classes will be offered in rotation starting June 16 through August 28.
  • Live at Thrive City — On Friday, June 14, June 21, and July 26, from 5 to 8 p.m., Thrive City will team up with Church of 8 Wheels for a roller skating experience in the plaza. Free 20-30 minute skate sessions will be offered in addition to complimentary skate rentals from child size 12Y to adult size 13.
  • Daybreaker — Daybreaker, the energetic daytime dance party, will return to Thrive City on Saturday, June 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants can join a paid yoga class before the sober dance event, which will offer healthy snacks and beverages while practicing wellness, camaraderie, and self-expression.
  • Summer Golf Day — On Sunday, June 16, Thrive City will host a Summer Golf Day from 12 to 4 p.m. Celebrate Father’s Day with a variety of golf activities including a Dryvebox Mobile Golf Simulator Unit, a 9-hole mini golf course, expert instruction from a golf pro, and a showing of national golf tournaments on San Francisco’s largest outdoor video board.
  • Live Music Lunch Series — Thrive City’s Live Music Lunch Series will continue with special performances from 12 to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, and Friday, June 21. Grab a bite to eat at one of Thrive City’s eateries and enjoy live music from talented, local Bay Area musicians ACA-word (June 18) and Matt Bolton (June 21).
  • Pride Comedy Night, presented by Accenture — Pride Comedy Night, presented by Accenture, returns to Thrive City for its second year on Thursday, June 20 from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. Get ready for an evening of laughter with a star-studded lineup of comedians such as Paris Sashay, Maxx Eddy, Chris Riggins, and Frida Sierra.
  • Paws-itively Summer — Paws-itively Summer returns to Thrive City on various Saturday mornings throughout the summer. On June 22, July 20, August 3, and August 10 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., dog parents can bring their furry friends to frolic in a pup park, indulge in a pup cup bar, meet new friends at a puppy mixer, and more. Additionally, attendees can visit the adoption and therapy stations to meet dogs who are looking for forever homes.
  • Blankets & Blockbusters — Thrive City will host free screenings of “Barbie,” “Wonka,” and “Trolls: Band Together” on San Francisco’s biggest outdoor video board on Saturday, June 22, July 20, and August 17. In addition to the films, guests can also enjoy themed activities, interactive games, and snacks & beverages.
  • California Classic Fan Fest — Before the sixth annual California Classic takes place at Chase Center on July 6 and 7, Thrive City will host a fan fest featuring carnival games, live music, lawn games, and more, all of which are free and open to the public.
  • Pickleball Tournament — Thrive City will host its first-ever Pickleball Tournament on Friday, July 12 from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, July 13 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The inaugural event will also include a special appearance from Warriors legend, NBA Hall of Famer, and US Open Pickleball Champion Rick Barry.   • Harmonic Jam — On Saturday, July 20 from 1 to 5 p.m., get ready to enjoy your favorite jam band tunes on Thrive City’s Esplanade with sunshine, live music, and food and drinks at Harmonic Brewing.
  • Health & Wellness Sundays, presented by Kaiser Permanente — Refresh and reset at Thrive City’s Health & Wellness Sundays, presented by Kaiser Permanente. On July 21, August 4, and August 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., ease into your day with a Pilates: Mobility Flow class at 11 a.m. before browsing through a marketplace featuring fresh produce from local farmers. Unwind the rest of the afternoon with lawn games, arts & crafts, and more.
  • Hoop it Up 3x3 Basketball Tournament — On Sunday, August 11, Hoop It Up returns for the second year in a row for a day of basketball and entertainment at Thrive City. Founded by NBA legend Kevin Garnett, players ages eight and up can participate through paid registration with a team of up to five players. The Men’s Pro-Am Division winner will have the opportunity to try out with the Santa Cruz Warriors, the G League affiliate of the Golden State Warriors, and receive a $1,000 travel voucher to attend the national Hoop It Up Championship.
